Marley and Me Review:
Marley and MeThis funny movie is tender, touching, sweet and a great adaptation of the book.
Who's in it? Jennifer Aniston, Owen Wilson, Alan Arkin, Kathleen Turner
What's it about? A family learns important life lessons from their adorable, but naughty and neurotic dog.
What type of film is it? Dramedy
Is it any good? Marley and Me is the kind of film that can seem like a great idea on paper and could turn out very well or could becomes annoying mush – but the team behind this adaptation pull it off brilliantly. Treading a fine line between a cutesy kid-and-animals movie, a romantic comedy plus a drama that actually deals with some serious life issues, this is a balanced and enjoyable mix that knows when the turn up the laughs, crank up the tears and relax into its own skin. Jennifer Aniston pulls out her best performance in years and Owen Wilson tones down the dude but loses none of his man-child charm. Marley and Me is a film that surprised, entertained and satisfied me – but it also reduced me to a blubbing idiot on more than one occasion. Already a huge success in the US, this is a decent dramedy that deserves your time and your money and will melt the iciest of hearts.
